5 Distractions to Avoid with Your Pet Franchise

When it comes to owning a business, there are many things that can distract you. You may find that the day to day activities get in the way or maybe there are just a ton of minute tasks that bog you down. If you have a pet franchise you should know some of the ways you can be distracted by others and how to change it.

Having too Many Advisors

Yes it is wonderful to have people who can give you advice. You may even greatly value the advice you are given by these people. However, when you have too many people giving you helpful tips for your pet franchise, it can become overwhelming. Sometimes you don’t even realize it’s happening. It happens slowly over time. You find yourself doing more and more because this person or that person told you that you should. This also opens up the door to self doubt.

The best thing you can do is listen to your franchisor. In addition to this, have one or maybe two people you trust give you advice on the franchise. Keep in mind that you do not have to do everything they say but use it as a guide for bettering your business.

Not Understanding the Difference Between Productivity and Being Busy

Many pet franchise owners do not understand the difference between being busy and being productive. They may think that as long as they are doing something then they are being productive. However there is a lot of busy work that is simply not productive. You need to be able to see what is going to actually accomplish your tasks and take care of the things you need so you can get ahead in your business.

Putting Off Critical Tasks

Procrastination is something many people excel at. This is especially true when it comes to big tasks that either seem scary or are overwhelming. The problem with this is that procrastination does not get things done. In fact, putting off a task can create a whole slew of other issues that need to be addressed. Many people use the mentality listed above to feel better about their procrastination. Again being busy is not always productive and accomplishing the tasks. The best thing you can do with your pet franchise is set a calendar of when things need to be done to keep you on track.

Letting Office Politics Take Precedence Over Logic

Office politics will almost always have a negative impact on your pet franchise. This is something that will ultimately become a distraction. While you may have an office brand, you do not want to let politics get in the way of how things are managed. You need to be able to think logically about the situation so there are no issues.

Never Saying No

The movie Yes Man taught us the beauty in saying yes. Sure this can be great but there are many times in life where this simply is not feasible. This is even more true if you are a pet franchise owner. You need to know when it is right to say no to staff, customers, and even family and friends. This will help keep you focused on what you really need to do. Also, remember that you will never please everyone. You can say yes to every request from every customer and it will still not be enough. So know when and where to draw the line.
